Monday on Lubbock's First News, Melissa Pierce, with Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), gave the details on the upcoming 20th anniversary fundraiser luncheon to be held this month.

CASA is an organization that works with children placed into foster care. A court appointed special advocate (CASA) volunteer is assigned to each child in the program. The volunteers help the children understand the process they are going through and offer support. Pierce said, "We are the voice for kids in foster care."

The fundraiser will be held at the Helen Devitt Jones Sculpture Court, Texas Tech Museum, at 3301 4th street. I will take place on Thursday, October 17th, from 11:45 am to 1:00 pm. The event will recognize the service of CASA volunteers over the years and raise money for future services. Senator Robert Duncan will speak and will be honored with the Todd Reno Champion for Children Award.

Tickets to the event are $20 for current or previous volunteers, $60 for the general public, and $6000 for a table of eight. Tickets can be obtained online at CASA of the South Plains or by calling 806-763-2272.
