Lubbock loves Rodney Carrington, and Rodney Carrington loves Lubbock.

Let's get the business out of the way. Carrington will be in town on January 7th, 2022. Tickets go sale this Friday (October 8th). If you want to go to the front of the line and buy tickets early on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., download our station app, turn on push notifications and keep your eyes open that morning. We'll also have some opportunities for you to win tickets before you can buy them.

Now, let's talk about my friend Rodney. I've known him since 1998. Before the record company issued edits and national morning shows "discovered" him, we were playing his stuff on 94.5 FMX. I did my own edits on his material. We played "Dancin' With a Man" (which was later turned into a video with Carrot Top), "Burning Sensations," "Fred," "The Chicken Song," bits of the stand-up, and, of course, his show-closing "Dear Penis." I like to think that our airplay was "proof of concept" to the record label and some of the other morning shows out there that people would love Rodney.

I've gotten to talk comedy with Carrington a number of times, with the last time resulting in me spilling whiskey all over his tour bus (probably not the first time whiskey was spilled in his tour bus). I also got to be very good friends with his favorite opener and best friend, the late Barry Martin.

The reason I bring all of this up is of all your entertainment options out there, I want you to know there is a genuine human being behind that cowboy hat who lives to bring the laughs, and hard. Let me also say that when he makes a counterpoint with his guitar, it adds a really cool element to the show as well.

One more item, if you're new to Rodney Carrington, keep in mind he puts on an adult show (I saw him do a XXX act one night at a club), which I'd rate about a PG-13 unless the women do indeed show their breasts, at which point it's an R.

Naughty Nicknames for 21 Texas Towns

Texans simply do not hold back when it comes to nicknames, so here's a warning now if you have delicate sensibilities. Some of these names are pretty brutal, perhaps undeserving. Others, well...they walked right into it.
