City of Lubbock Will Continue Requiring Masks At City Facilities

It has been over a month since the State of Texas lifted the mask mandate and instead of a rising surge in cases like some predicted, cases of coronavirus, hospitalizations, along with deaths have fallen.

There are still some places asking people to mask up. Some businesses are asking people to wear masks while other just encourage it and some cities, like the City of Lubbock will be requiring masks for a little while longer/

According to a press release from the City of Lubbock, masks will be required at all city-owned facilities and events through at least April 30.

Staying with its commitment to the health and safety of staff and citizens, the City of Lubbock will continue to require masks inside all City facilities and at City events at least through April 30.

The City also encourages social distancing and other measures to protect customers and employees.

City management will continue to monitor COVID metrics within the community, and will revisit the status of these requirements by April 30.

This includes Lubbock City Council meetings and other meetings that may happen in any city-run facility including the Civic Center.

The next big meeting at Citizens Tower will happen on Thursday, April 15th when the Charter Review Committee will host a public hearing inside City Council Chambers at 5:30 p.m. During the meeting, citizens will have a chance to address the committee regarding possible changes to the Lubbock City Charter. That includes changes to pay, term limits, and other concerns citizens may have. Citizens can also participate over Zoom if they can't make it in person.
