Lubbock’s Burklee Hill Vineyards Is Moving into the Beer Making Business
There is not much information out there, but rumor has it that the owners of Burklee Hill Vineyards have purchased a building near their winery and are planning to start Burklee Brew.
Although Burklee Hill Vinyards is not a new business itself, having started their vineyard in 2002, their winery is a fairly new venture. They opened the winery in March 2020 after renovating the iconic Kress department store building in downtown Lubbock.
They serve a variety of wines along with their expertly crafted menu. The owners of the winery, Chance and Elizabeth Hill, are all about trying and creating delicious food. Although primarily living the life of a farmer, Hill also loves to cook. Hill’s sister is also a chef in San Francisco and she helps them when it comes to curating the best food for their guests.
Although it is a newer winery, they have already made a big name for themselves. Their 2019 reserve tempranillo even won a double gold medal and best-of-class award from the San Francisco Chronicle's wine competition in 2021.
Seeing their success with wines, I am excited to see what they will do with beer. The tentative opening of Burklee Brew is this fall, which is approaching fast.
I wonder what lead them to want to brew beer as well as make wine. There is not much information out there about the new brewery, so I am excited to see how it turns out. It would be cool to see some unique takes on their beer due to their familiarity with making wines, but I guess we will just need to wait and see.
