A former youth pastor in Lubbock will be spending time behind bars after pleading guilty Monday morning to two counts of child sexual assault bigamy.

Former Lubbock Youth Pastor Sentenced

Luke Cunningham was originally arrested in June of 2024 in Shallowater, Texas and was initially charged with one count of aggravated sexual assault and aggravated sexual assault of a child.

According to KAMC, the Lubbock County District Attorney's office confirmed 16 separate incidents of assault that involved two victims from September to December of 2018.

Court documents revealed that both victims were under the age of 17. Court documents showed that Cunningham had more allegations dating back to 2013. Court documents also showed one instance in which Cunningham was accused of using his hands as a “deadly” weapon during one of the assaults.

Luke Cunningham was a former youth pastor at Turning Point in Lubbock from 2016 to 2020 and was involved with two separate churches in the Lubbock. Cunningham most recently was involved with Lakeside Baptist Church in Granbury.

Sentenced to 40 Years in Prison

According to the report, Luke Cunningham was sentenced to  40 Years in Prison and must serve a lifetime protective order, register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. He currently has credit of 650 days on jail.
