Netflix Wants to Introduce 20 New Original Series Each Year, as if You Need More Choices
Let’s be honest here: you probably spend more time browsing your options on Netflix Instant than you do actually watching anything. And now to add to your ongoing decision-making dilemma, Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos has announced that the service plans to start launching 20 (twenty!) new original series a year. Now you’ll never run out of options for weekend binge-watching.
‘50 Shades of Grey’ Officially Rated R for “Sexual Content” and “Unusual Behavior”
We won’t know exactly how graphic ‘50 Shades of Grey’ is going to be until we see the film with our own cursed eyeballs, but we now officially know that the film has been given an R-rating by the pearl-clutching members of the MPAA. What does that R-rating stand for? Graphic nudity, “strong sexual content,” and “unusual behavior.” Wait, what the hell is unusual behavior?!
New Movie Releases: January 2015
The holidays are winding down and we’re heading into the new year with a whole new schedule of films hitting theaters in 2015. January kicks us off with plenty of movie options to help you escape the winter blues, including anticipated releases like ‘Taken 3' and ‘Blackhat,’ as well as more action, adventure, and even a couple of family friendly releases. Read on for our guide to the new movie releases coming to a theater near you in January 2015.
Sony Officially Cancels the Planned Christmas Release of ‘The Interview’
Following today’s release of a message sent from the mysterious group responsible for the massive Sony hack, the company has now informed theater owners that they can opt out of screening ‘The Interview’ if they are concerned about the terrorist threat. Although the Department of Homeland Security responded by saying they could find “no credible info” on planned attacks, Sony has decided to place the decision to screen the film in the hands of theater executives.
Was ‘Frozen 2’ Basically Just Confirmed by Elsa Herself?
‘Frozen’ was a huge hit: financially (it is the number one animated film of all time), commercially (can someone please tell my neighbors to stop watching YouTube videos of toddlers singing “Let It Go” already?), and critically. A sequel is all but guaranteed, although we haven’t gotten legitimate confirmation from Disney on a release date or firm plans for ‘Frozen 2' just yet—only a short film called ‘Frozen Fever,’ hitting theaters next Spring. Every time a cast member from the film is interviewed, the subject of a sequel has to come up, and it seems like maybe Idina Menzel—the voice of Elsa—may have just sort of confirmed a sequel on behalf of Disney. Oops?
Jake Gyllenhaal’s ‘Southpaw’ Transformation Is Truly Astonishing
When actors transform for a role, we take notice (and most of the time, so does that little golden statue named Oscar). Christian Bale in ‘The Machinist,’ Matthew McConaughey in ‘Dallas Buyers Club,’ Charlize Theron in ‘Monster,’ Christian Bale in the ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy, etc. Jake Gyllenhaal recently joined the club when he dropped 25 pounds to play the sociopathic Lou Bloom in ‘Nightcrawler,’ and now he’s at it again with his incredible transformation for his next film, Antoine Fuqua’s ‘Southpaw.’

Watch Johnny Depp’s Weird, Drunken Speech at the Hollywood Film Awards
So this is why we don't see Johnny Depp on stage very often (ever?) at awards shows. Last night at the Hollywood Film Awards, Depp introduced the documentary ‘Supermensch,’ about legendary talent manager Shep Gordon, and immediately made it pretty clear that he was not sober-minded. “That's the weirdest microphone I've ever seen in my life,” he slurs—except, you know, it's just a regular microphone.
‘Bond 24’ Appropriately Casts Christoph Waltz in the Role of James Bond Villain
It was only a matter of time before Christoph Waltz, perpetual movie bad guy, was cast as a James Bond villain. Always the bridesmaid! Although we know the real villain in the next James Bond film, aka 'Bond 24,' is clearly the lack of an official title -- the film, which is scheduled to hit theaters in 2016 and has already begun casting (obviously) and we have no title. Is 'Bond 24' too unprofessional? Is 'The Force Awakens' already taken?
Update: ‘Toy Story 4′ Is Officially Happening, Gets a 2017 Release Date
Even though we were told, once upon a time, that Disney and Pixar had no plans for 'Toy Story 4,' it seems that those plans have changed. After a series of short films that kept us up to date with the adventures of Woody and Buzz Lightyear and friends, Disney CEO Bob Iger has just announced that we'll finally be getting a 'Toy Story 4' after all, and it has an official release date and everything.
