The name of an Austin police officer slain Friday morning at a Walmart has been released. Senior Police Officer Jaime Padron was responding to a report of a drunken individual at the North Austin Walmart when he was shot at point-blank range. Witnesses say he had no time to draw his weapon.

Walmart employees tackled the shooter, and Padron radioed for help. He died minutes later. He had worked for the Austin Police Department for over three years, and had also worked on the Austin airport police force and the San Angelo police force.
