American Airlines Sends 11,000 Layoff Warnings to Employees

A Texas based airline has sent out 11,000 layoff notice warnings to mechanics and ground workers.

Fort Worth based American Airlines sent out the layoff warnings as the reeling carrier is in the middle of bankruptcy restructuring.

A spokesperson for American said that 40 percent of the the employees receiving the layoff warnings will be fired.

American said in February of this year that they planned to cut 14,000 jobs, 13,000 of them union jobs. This number was negotiated in labor contracts.

The number of employees that American expects to layoff is around 4,400.
