Amarillo Police Fatally Shoot Man in Domestic Violence Case
AMARILLO, Texas (AP) — A Texas police officer has fatally shot a suspect in a domestic violence case after investigators say the man pointed a handgun at officers.
An Amarillo police statement says 35-year-old Jason Magana Herrera died at the scene Tuesday night. An autopsy was ordered. One officer suffered minor injuries.
Officer Jeb Hilton says officers were responding to a trespassing call related to domestic violence. Two officers attempted to detain Herrera by using a Taser.
Hilton says the officers reported that Herrera broke free, pulled a gun, ran but then turned and pointed the gun at the officers. One officer shot Herrera.
Hilton says one officer was transported to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Police didn't immediately identify the officer.
A message left with Amarillo police wasn't immediately returned Wednesday.
