Abilene Officer Killed in Traffic Accident

An off-duty Abilene police officer died last night in a traffic accident on Interstate 20 in Clyde.

KAMC News reports Elise Ybarra was traveling with two other Abilene police detectives to Dallas for a conference. On the way, they drove up on a semi-truck crash and traffic was reduced to 1 lane. Officers in the car with Ybarra say a white Chevrolet truck failed to control speed and crashed into their car.

Ybarra was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 2 other officers and the driver of the Chevrolet truck were taken to Hendrick Medical Center.
