Abilene Christian University Receives NCAA Division I Invitation

An Abilene university will likely be moving to a bigger athletic conference.

Abilene Christian University received their official invitation from the Southland Conference to join its league, and move to NCAA Division I affiliation.

The University’s football team would not be able to begin play in the Southland Conference until 2014 due to schedule commitments, but all other sports would begin their Division I competition in the 2013-14 school year.

The switch will be discussed by the ACU Board of Trustees this weekend at their regularly scheduled meeting, and make a final decision on the move.

Their decision will be announced at a press conference on Saturday, August 25^th at 12:30 p.m. if the invitation is accepted.
