An organization will help Texas motorists who have had too much to drink get their vehicles home during the Fourth of July holiday.

AAA Texas will offer their Tipsy Tow service from 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 3rd through midnight Thursday, July 4th.

A regular AAA Texas-contracted roadside service truck will be dispatched and will give a free tow home of up to 10 miles.

Motorists, bartenders, restaurant managers, party hosts, or passengers of a drinking driver may call 1-800-AAA-HELP and tell the operator that you need a Tipsy Tow.

The service excludes rides for passengers, is restricted to a one-way, one-time ride for the driver, and the destination is limited to the driver’s residence.

Drivers can expect to pay the rate charged by the tow truck contractor for rides farther than 10 miles.

Many motorists who have had too much to drink have said that reasons they don’t find alternate transportation is because of cab costs or the inconvenience of having to retrieve their vehicle the next day.

You do not have to be a AAA member to use the free Tipsy Tow service.

In 2012, 1,170 people were killed in alcohol-related crashes in Texas last year, and another 9,400 more people were seriously injured.
