A Rare Selena Interview Is Newly Restored [Watch]
Continuing with Selena Week, we recently discovered a restored interview with Selena Quintanilla. The Queen of Tejano YouTube channel restored this video from 1994 to full glory with quality audio that you can understand.
I have seen copies of this video before in the past, and it was hard to understand. But this restoration is perfect.
Despite the title of the video, the interview actually took place at the Amarillo Civic Center, according to JR Castilleja, the Lubbock man who conducted it. Kevin Copeland shot the video.
Castilleja told 102.5 Kiss FM that by the time he was able to sit down with Selena for the TV show Pure Tejano Music, it was after midnight. However, that didn't stop the singer from passionately discussing her other dreams, which included acting and fashion. She said she wanted to perform in both English and Spanish-language movies, Castilleja recalled.
In the video, Selena talks about how she got into music by being envious of her brother. And boy, did she figure it out! She also discusses her views on teen pregnancy and how those in that situation should be exposed to more education on the topic.
Castilleja even presented Selena with a Lady Raiders t-shirt.
When asked how she wanted to be remembered when she was gone, she had this to say:
“…not only as an entertainer, but a person who cared…”
It's hard to believe that at the end of March, Selena will have been gone 22 years.
Castilleja said he plans to re-release more portions from the 45-minute interview on the anniversary of Selena's death.
Note: An earlier version of this story claimed the interview with Selena took place in Lubbock, Texas.
