According to KAMC, the National Weather Service storm prediction center has labeled this afternoon's weather situation in Lubbock and east of Lubbock a "particularly dangerous situation."

"Particularly Dangerous Situation" (PDS) Tornado Watch is issued where there's a high threat for very severe and life-threatening weather.

Lubbock is currently in the "enhanced" risk area for severe weather while eastern portions of the South Plains are in the "moderate" and "high" risk areas.

The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for Lubbock and eastern South Plains counties until 8 p.m.


The greatest risk of tornadoes seems to be northeast of Lubbock.

Alex O'Brien with KAMC says that areas around Childress, Turkey, Matador, and Paducah have a 45 percent chance of seeing a tornado.

Severe weather is expected to develop this afternoon and continue tonight.
