Scam calls are a part of life that we're learning to deal with.

Our good friends over at Everything Lubbock talked about a rise of scam calls. So much so that they called the same scam phone number three times and got three different scams.

But I'm not here to talk about that. I've reported to you on plenty of scams and fake calls over the last year and a half. You can check those out right here.

The common sense rules are as follows:

  1. Don't answer numbers that you don't recognize. Let them go to voicemail.
  2. Don't believe what anyone you don't know or do business with tells you.
  3. Don't ever confirm anything with someone you don't know, especially over the phone.
  4. If someone says you owe money and you don't HANG UP!
  5. The cops, IRS, FBI, or process servers WILL NOT CALL YOU if there's a problem. They will either mail you, or just come to you, PERIOD. (And we don't have debtor's prison, so you can't go to jail for not paying a bill.)

For tips, you can use to spot scam calls check out the Federal Trade Commissions website.
