Food has been delivered to Lubbock elementary school students who might not get full meals during their holiday break from school.

University Medical Center employees filled about 200 reusable shopping bags provided by United Supermarkets during a food drive this week.

These donations ensure that students have adequate nutrition while away from school.

“This year, the need was greater than it has been, but the generosity of our employees was greater as well,” said Kristi Ward, UMC’s associate general counsel and public information officer.

The bags were given to students in low-income families at Brown and Bean Elementary schools on Wednesday afternoon.

UMC sponsors Brown Elementary through the Partners in Education program. Hospital employees have donated food, clothing, and school supplies to students, as well as a Christmas tree for students to decorate in the school.
