Texas Tech softball will be in action this week against a top-ranked opponent.

Tech’s Athletic Department is encouraging fans to pack Rocky Johnson Field as the Red Raiders host first-ranked Oklahoma in a three-game series that begins at 7 p.m. Friday evening.

The series marks the first time Tech has ever hosted the top-ranked team in the nation, as the Sooners travel to Lubbock after a 34-2 start to their season, including a 3-0 mark in Big 12 play.

“This is a big weekend for our ball club,” said Tech head coach Shanon Hays. “It’s important for us to get off to a good start in the series, so we hope fans will start their Friday evening at the ballpark before heading to watch the football team. We’ve had success against Oklahoma in the past and hopefully we’ll play well in front of our home fans.”

Friday’s series opener is also Greek Challenge night, as the fraternity or sorority with the most members in attendance will receive a party later in the season

Fans who purchase tickets for the game will also receive complimentary admission into Saturday’s 4 p.m. Contest.

Tech football coach Kliff Kingsbury will also throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the 12 p.m. start, and all kids in attendance can run the bases following the game.

Tickets can be purchased at the gate for $5 for adults and $3 for non-Tech students ages 18 and under. All Tech students will receive free admission by showing their student ID.
