Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center President Tedd L. Mitchell, M.D., and Texas Tech University System Chancellor Robert L. Duncan announced the establishment of a public health school to be located in Abilene.

The Monday, July 21 announcement of the establishment of the TTUHSC School of Public Health in Abilene marks the institution’s sixth school. According to Tech, the school’s establishment was made possible largely by a gift from an anonymous donor and was the second largest gift in the Health Science Center’s history.

Robert Duncan, who recently began his tenure as Chancellor, said the establishment of the school was a milestone for TTUHSC.

“This new school will be a catalyst for healthy communities and provide professionals who empower people to lead healthier lives," Said Duncan. "Thank you to Dr. Mitchell for his leadership and commitment to this project and to the many donors and members of the Abilene community who have generously supported this initiative and our regional campus over the years.”

A new building for the school will be constructed on Tech’s Abilene campus which houses three other branches of the institution with part of the gift.
