The City of Lubbock's City Secretary's office completed a recount of last week's District 1 election on Saturday. The recount was requested by one of the losing candidates, Frank Gutierrez.

After losing the May 10th Local Option Election to opponent Victor Hernandez, Frank Gutierrez raised concerns that St. Joseph Catholic Church, an established voting location, was also the church that Hernandez attended. St. Joseph released a statement Friday, May 16th, responding to the allegations.
The recount petition filed by Frank Gutierrez for the District One City Council position did not meet all of the state statute required elements of a recount petition, but they have the opportunity to make changes.
City Councilman Victor Hernandez has announced plans for a meeting on May 17th regarding a proposed Zone Change Request that would change a section of North University Avenue from Heavy Commercial zoning to Retail Commercial zoning.
