TRANs are annual, one-year notes, which are sold to help fund school payments and manage cash flow between the start of a fiscal year and the arrival of tax revenue later in the year.

“Texas sales tax revenue has increased for 40 consecutive months,” said Texas Comptroller Susan Combs.

The Comptroller’s office is also supplying free sports equipment to public schools in areas identified as being at high risk for obesity.

The sales tax holiday exempts most clothing, footwear, school supplies, and backpacks priced under $100 from sales tax, which could save shoppers about $8 on every $100 they spend during the weekend.

Combs announced Wednesday that she will not run for any position in 2014.

Many cities across the South Plains will receive a larger payment, but a few will receive less.

“The strong business and consumer spending trend boosted the monthly sales tax revenue, as did money remitted at the close of the state’s tax amnesty which ended in August,” said Combs.

Much of the increase comes from business spending in the oil and gas industry, as well as success in other sectors.

Lubbock County sees a 11.43% increase in June Sales Tax revenue from this time last year. The State of Texas is up 15.2% from June 2011 to June 2012.
