Slaton

Slaton, Texas is a city formed through a Santa Fe Railroad transaction in 1911. The city officially opened on June 15, 1911, and was named after the local banker and rancher O.L. Slaton. The town was put in place as a site that could serve as a division point to service trains coming through West Texas.

The Slaton Independent School District was established on March 9, 1912, and the population grew rapidly from this point with the increase of railroad employees and families. Slaton's population grew from 3,879 to 7,250 between the 1930s and 1970s. The population has gone down since then and now sits at around 5,960 residents.

There are also some notable people that came from Lubbock including Jeremy Boreing, a producer and chief operating director at The Daily Wire, Hank singer, a fiddle player, and studio musician for several artists including Miranda Lambert and Tanya Tucker, and Peggy Sue Gerron, the woman that was the inspiration for the Buddy Holly and the Crickets song 'Peggy Sue'.
