At around 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon, crews began demolishing the outer walls and structure of the Lubbock Municipal Auditorium and Coliseum.

In May of 2018, Texas Tech University released plans to demolish the Coliseum for around $3.5 million dollars. Demolition will begin soon and last until August.

The councilman said, "I don't have any indication that when we get through budget cycle that we would be able to keep the effective tax rate."

On the topic of the coliseum and auditorium, Massengale said, "The move on the auditorium/coliseum seems logical to me. It seems like a fiscally conservative decision to stop using a building that has outlived its useful life."
