The historic cold snap effectively halted oil production in Texas when 11 refineries lost power or had equipment that was too frozen to function effectively.
Both the statewide average, and Lubbock's average price for gas, dropped one cent this week. Midland and Odessa continue to have some of the highest averages in the state, over $2 a gallon.
The gas prices in Texas have continued to decline despite summer usually being a time when gas prices go up. The statewide gas price average, as of Aug. 6, is $1.85.
With an average price of $2.23, Lubbock is trending 4 cents less than the state average. Some local gas stations even have gas as low as $2.09 per gallon.
