Senator Ted Cruz Hopes Next Texas House Speaker Will Be Strong Conservative Leader [INTERVIEW]
On Thursday's edition of The Chad Hasty Show U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) joined the broadcast to talk about the latest news from Washington, D.C. and Texas.
Senator Cruz and Hasty discussed progress in the tax cuts and reforms arena, how 401(k) retirement plans may be affected by the changes, jobs, illegal immigration, the many conflicts that have arisen in the GOP, as well as the recent announcement by Texas Speaker of the House Joe Straus that he would not be seeking reelection.
When Hasty asked what Cruz hopes to see as results from tax cuts and reforms, Cruz explained what is currently happening on that front, and spoke on the seriousness of accomplishing meaningful tax reform, saying
If we fail, if we come up short, it will be an absolutely heartbreaking missed opportunity.
While discussing the constant turmoil between both Republicans on Capitol Hill, and the White House, Cruz remarked,
It is unfortunate to see Republicans bickering with each other like schoolchildren...We need to focus on results instead.
Hasty also asked Cruz about his thoughts on the recent announcement that Texas Speaker of the House Joe Straus will not be seeking reelection. During his answer Cruz said,
I wish Joe the best in his next chapter, but I also very much hope that the next speaker in the House is a strong conservative leader who will defend the principals and values of Texans.
