Rep. Matt Schaefer Urges House GOP Caucus To Attend Speaker Selection Meeting [INTERVIEW]

Tuesday on The Chad Hasty Show, District 6 Representative Matt Schaefer (Tyler) appeared on the program to talk about an important meeting of the Texas House Republican caucus, which will take place on Friday, December 01. The meeting will decide upon changes in the processes for selecting a nominee for the new Speaker of the House.

Emphasizing the importance of GOP representatives attending the meeting, Schaefer said,

We've got to have a large amount of participation on Friday to meet the vote threshold, we need at least sixty four votes to change the bylaws. So I would hope every citizen listening to this is asking their state representative, if he or she is Republican, are you going to show up to the meeting in Austin on Friday, and will you be voting yes for this process?

Schaefer spoke about the behind-the-scenes efforts of the opposition to scuttle the effort, saying, "Democrats are already working behind the scenes trying to peel off some of these Republicans and offer them a deal, that's already happening."
