Friday on The Chad Hasty Show, Patrick Svitek from the Texas Tribune joined the show to talk about the latest in news and politics in the state of Texas.

Svitek and Hasty discussed the competing budgets before the state legislature, including funding for border security.

Also in the discussion were the topics of the "bathroom bill" and where the support lies for it, the legal troubles and indictment of State Rep. Dawnna Dukes (D-Austin), and what lies ahead next week in the 85th Texas Legislature.

While talking about Texas Governor Greg Abbott's stance on the "bathroom bill", Svitek said,

He's not taken a firm position either way yet, and this is relatively characteristic of Abbott of "hot button" issues. He kind of likes to float above the fray, take a relatively cautious approach, and I'm sure if his hand is forced he will weigh in in a very firm and definitive way.
