A winter weather advisory has been issued for an area of the northern South Plains by the National Weather Service.

The advisory area includes Castro, Swisher, Childress, Lamb, Motley, and Cottle Counties, and will be in effect from 9 p.m. Monday until 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Light to occasionally moderate snowfall is expected to develop late this evening across the northern South Plains and southwestern Texas Panhandle.

Accumulations of 1 to 2 inches are possible. Other areas south and west of the advisory area including Lubbock County may see snowfall amounts of one inch or less.

Area residents are advised to use caution while driving in snowy and icy conditions. As the weather changes, we’ll keep you updated.
