One person is in police custody after a robbery Wednesday morning.

Lubbock Police responded to a burglary in progress at 530 42nd Street just before 12:30 a.m.

Officers found a badly beaten victim in the alley and saw the suspect vehicle fleeing the scene.

A vehicle pursuit began, and officers used a controlled collision to stop the vehicle at 42nd Street and Avenue Q.

Police arrested 25-year-old Matthew Rodriguez at the scene and took him to University Medical Center with minor injuries. One officer was also taken to University Medical Center with minor injuries.

The victim, 20-year-old Joe Martinez, was taken to UMC with serious injuries and has since been released.

Rodriguez has been charged with Aggravated Robbery, a first degree felony; Evading Arrest, a third degree felony; and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.
