The Lubbock City Council yesterday held a Special City Council meeting concerning city facilities. The council heard presentations from all city departments concerning the condition of their facilities and renovation needs.

Lubbock Mayor Glen Robertson estimated that renovations to facilities could cost taxpayers around $9 million. The mayor also singled out the condition of the Lubbock Police Department headquarters at 916 Texas Avenue. Mayor Robertson said the building is an unsafe environment. Especially due to mold, asbestos and leaking pipes. The council also said some fire stations are in need of updating as well.

A bond election to fund the renovations and/or replacement facilities probably won’t be called until May of 2014.
