A U.S. Senator from Texas has introduced legislation that would give concealed-carry reciprocity in other states that also have conceal-carry laws.

U.S. Senator John Cornyn introduced an amendment to S. 649, which is dubbed as the “Safe Communities, Safe Schools Act of 2013.”

Cornyn’s amendment would allow gun owners to carry concealed weapons across state lines and within other states that also have concealed carry laws.

The Senate resolution’s summary says that S. 649 is “To ensure that all individuals who should be prohibited from buying a firearm are listed in the national instant criminal background check system and require a background check for every firearm sale…”

The “Constitutional Concealed Carry Act of 2013” would treat state-issued conceal-carry permits like drivers’ licenses, allowing citizens with conceal-carry privileges to conceal-carry in other states that also permits it by law.

Cornyn said “For all of us who are worried about these episodes of senseless gun violence, I think we can actually find a solution, not by encroaching on the rights of law-abiding citizens who are exercising their constitutional rights but by focusing on the areas where we can actually make a difference.”
