According to KHOU 11, a major change is underway for a university here in Texas. The University of Houston–Victoria is getting a complete makeover and will officially be renamed Texas A&M University–Victoria, making it the 12th university in the Texas A&M system. Go Aggies!

This change comes as a result of Senate Bill 2361, which was signed by Governor Greg Abbott. The bill transfers governance, assets, and oversight of the Victoria campus from the University of Houston System to the Texas A&M System.

Texas A&M University System Chancellor John Sharp announced that the university will receive a significant $25 million in the new state budget to help expand academic programs and services for the region. He stated, "This is a transformational moment for Victoria and South Texas. The people of this region deserve a world-class regional university, and that’s exactly what we’re going to help build."Be sure to thank Governor Abbott and the Texas Senators for not only their leadership but also for making this change happen.
