Tragedy Strikes North Lubbock County in Apparent Murder-Suicide

A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded late Tuesday night in North Lubbock County, where deputies say a woman and man were found dead in what authorities are calling a suspected homicide followed by suicide.

The Lubbock County Sheriff's Office responded to a distressing call around 11:46 p.m. on April 15th, from a residence in the 7000 block of County Road 6100. According to the report, the caller discovered 62-year-old Teresa Buritica De Mayon and 69-year-old Joel Mayon deceased at the home.

Patrol deputies were first on the scene and quickly secured the area before contacting investigators to begin a full inquiry. Officials say that both individuals had sustained gunshot wounds, and early evidence suggests this may have been a murder-suicide situation.

The identities of the deceased were released by the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office Wednesday morning. The couple's relationship has not been fully confirmed, but neighbors told LCSO the pair had lived in the area for several years and were known to be quiet and friendly.

As of now, investigators are still working the case, and no other suspects are being sought. Authorities believe there is no ongoing threat to the public. While the details are limited, officials have confirmed that preliminary findings point to one individual fatally shooting the other before turning the gun on themselves.
