It was a wild Monday evening on the east side of Lubbock after a passenger truck crashed into the front of a commercial building just off Southeast Drive and East 50th Street. The accident happened around 6:20 PM, and early reports had everyone bracing for the worst — flames, a possible fire, and people potentially trapped inside.

LFD to the Rescue

Thankfully, when Lubbock Fire Rescue crews arrived on the scene, they discovered the situation wasn’t quite as dire as feared.

According to Lubbock Fire Rescue, while the vehicle did cause significant damage to the building, there was no active fire and no one was trapped inside the truck. Additional units that responded included Engine 5, Engine 8, Engine 1, Truck 1, Heavy Rescue 1, and Battalion 1 — a serious lineup that shows just how concerned responders were about the initial call.

The building, however, took a pretty hard hit. Due to structural concerns, the crews called in Engine 18 and Heavy Rescue 18 for stabilization support. They quickly got to work shoring up the building to make sure it wouldn’t collapse and to keep everyone nearby safe.

The Good News

No injuries were reported, but there is ongoing concern. The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation by the Lubbock Police Department.

What Should You Do If Something Like This Happens?

Crashing into a building — or witnessing a crash like this — can be terrifying. Here’s what Lubbock Fire wants you to know:

  • Call 911 immediately if you see fire, smoke, or someone trapped.

  • If you’re in a vehicle that crashes into a structure, stay inside unless there’s a fire or another danger — structural damage could make the building unstable.

  • Don’t try to move the vehicle unless you're in immediate danger.

  • Report your location clearly to 911 dispatch so emergency crews can get there fast.

  • If you're a bystander, stay back — let trained crews do their thing.
