It was a big day for agriculture and West Texas as House Budget Chairman Jodey Arrington (TX-19) welcomed Brooke Rollins, the 33rd United States Secretary of Agriculture, to Lubbock for a high-profile visit with local ag leaders, educators, and students.

Powerhouse Lineup

The event, held at Texas Tech University, brought together a powerhouse lineup of farmers, ranchers, university officials, and Texas Tech students, all eager to engage with Secretary Rollins and hear firsthand how the Trump administration plans to support rural America and the ag industry.

Chairman Arrington said:

I am excited to welcome my dear friend and Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins to West Texas to meet with our farmers and ranchers, listen to their challenges and concerns, and highlight President Trump’s commitment to a vibrant rural America. Rural America is blessed to have a proud Texan and principled conservative leading our nation’s Department of Agriculture. Go WTX and MAGA!

Secretary Rollins didn’t hold back her enthusiasm for Lubbock’s role in shaping the nation’s future in agriculture, saying:

We have our fabrics, clothes, and medical supplies because of the land and labor from cotton farmers in Lubbock and surrounding counties. With President Trump in the White House, we are putting farmers first at USDA. We are reversing the harmful policies of the Biden Administration that have put unnecessary strain on Texas farmers to ensure they thrive in America’s new Golden Age!

Local Leaders Speak

Local leaders were quick to praise Secretary Rollins for her willingness to listen and engage.

Kevin Brinkley, CEO of the Plains Cotton Cooperative Association, said:

I was absolutely impressed with Secretary Rollins’ knowledge of the issues affecting agriculture. She’s a quick study, and I believe the time she spent listening to the industry will amplify our voice when important decisions are made.

The visit also included a tour of Texas Tech’s Cotton Classification Complex, showcasing the cutting-edge research and innovation coming out of the South Plains.

It’s not every day that West Texas gets this kind of national attention, it’s clear our farmers are being heard—and seen—on a much larger stage.
