Will This Weekend’s Tornado and Hail Risk Impact Lubbock?

Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Arkansas are all at risk of severe weather this Saturday, June 10, 2023.

This risk is wind driven and includes a chance for severe thunderstorms, including a threat of large hail and possible tornados. Northeastern Texas is the portion of the Lone star at the highest risk, including the DFW area, especially for the chance of hail.

The storm risk also spreads further south into Texas, dissipating as it moves further away from DFW. It also spreads slightly West, but not far enough for Lubbock residents or other West Texas cities to be concerned.

While that is currently the case, this forecast has been changing as we get closer to Saturday, so it is important to keep an eye on the forecast and see if any major changes occur. For example, Oklahoma was previously expected to receive a large amount of hail, but now Texas is the state expected to receive most of it.

With how rainy it has been in Texas over the past few weeks, these storms don’t come as a shock to many, but we should still be mindful of the dangers associated with hail and tornado risks.

Be sure to establish a safe area of your home, away from windows, that your family can go to in case of an emergency. Have water, canned food, and other emergency supplies on hand, including supplies for any pets you have.

While it may seem extreme to prepare like this, windy storms can take you by surprise and you never know when a tornado can tear through your area. It is much better to be safe than sorry.
