The goal of any restaurant is to serve a well-prepared meal to every customer. The majority of restaurants in East Texas do just that, but others may let certain things slide, and then all of a sudden those little things that go unchecked compound and public health could soon be affected.

Enter the Northeast Texas Public Health District (NET Health). The agency is responsible for routinely and spontaneously inspecting area restaurants to ensure they comply with established protocols and food handling.

Now I've never worked in the restaurant industry, but I have heard it is a tough business to be in because there is so much to keep on top of mind. Hitting on all cylinders and being perfect every time is a challenge in running a restaurant. Unfortunately, restaurants will have some bad days and if the inspector happens to stop in for an inspection, those issues come to light.

If it weren't for the routine or spontaneous inspections, some restaurants would continue to have 'bad days' and never address or correct any issues and eventually someone would end up getting sick. That's why inspections must be done.

  • Gipson's Holy Smoke BBQ - 16822 McElroy Rd - Whitehouse
