Brenham, Texas - Rescue teams continued their search today for a missing 10-year-old girl who was swept away by rising, fast-moving floodwaters on Monday amid a series of storms hitting Houston and the surrounding area.

The girl was last seen on Monday afternoon, just before 4:30 pm, at Fireman's Park. Several attempts were made to rescue her by the fire department and a police officer, but they were unsuccessful. The officer who attempted to save her was also carried downstream, where he had to be rescued and then treated by EMS.

Drones, thermal imaging, rescue canines, rescue workers, and dozens of local agencies have come together to search for the little girl. Her name has not been released due to her age and concerns for privacy for her family, but she has been identified as a student of Brenham Elementary School. The school announced it would make counseling sessions available to students and staff.

Several more storms are on the radar across Texas this week. Be sure to stay tuned to your local news. If there is flooding in your area, please do your best to stay off the streets and take alternative routes when possible to avoid getting caught in fast-moving water. Don't take any chances crossing flooded areas.
