Motorist Jumps Off Houston HWY After Deadly 3-Way Crash
A motorist crashed into a barrier on IH-69 and exited his vehicle, likely to avoid being hit by other approaching traffic. Afterward, their vehicle was struck by another driver, described as a 40-year-old man, who was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene.
A third vehicle carrying two people then smashed into the back of the second vehicle involved in the crash. The driver and passenger were taken to the hospital and are both expected to survive.
The original person who crashed into the barrier was said to have jumped off of the highway to avoid being hit by another vehicle. Witnesses also believe the original driver may have been impaired, but this has not been confirmed. He was discovered by a homeless man who alerted authorities to his presence on the street below the overpass. He was taken to the hospital and as of the most recent update was described as 'unresponsive.'
Winter weather is upon us in Texas and it's more important than ever to slow down and be aware of your surroundings. We're even looking at a little snow here in Lubbock, and I'm already pretty nervous about how everyone will fare with the ice. We don't do well with ice in Texas.
I can't say whether or not ice played a role in the crash above, but it's something to think about as you go into your weekend.
Slow down, stay sober, and stay off of the ice if you don't have a reason to be out on the road.
