A friend of my snapped a picture of the T.J. Patterson Memorial Plaza building in Lubbock, Texas this morning and forwarded it to me. The minute the saw it, they immediately noticed something was totally off with the way the flags are flying. I don't know if I would have caught it.

It doesn't look like anyone checked the flag code before raising the Japanese flag to honor Lubbock's sister city, Musashino, Tokyo.

Junior ambassadors were sent to Lubbock for a visit, and despite someone's best intentions to make them feel welcome by flying their home country's flag, it was done completely wrong. Whoopsie.

It's probably not the first time you've read about businesses not following proper flag code in Lubbock. We've covered a handful of sightings over the past few years.

And, listen....

It's not to be mean or put a business on blast. Mistakes happen. Hell, I don't know the first thing about flag code or any of the rules, but I'm also not in charge of hanging them.

It's important to do a little research before you just string one up there. The rules are highly specific, and some take great offense to flags being flown improperly.
