The Tea

Let's get to the tea straightaway. Once up a time a man created a local Facebook group focusing on food. Like many of us, he added outside admins to help him keep up with the traffic. One of those admins, who may or may not have been a late-joiner (at least compared to some of the others) is now being called out for kicking the other admins out of the group. This is the shortest version of the drama possible.

This Food Is Baloney!

So does all of this sound like some high-school-mean-girls nonsense? You bet it does, with one exception. The group had somewhere around 88,000 followers so it may have some very mild sway or swag to it.  These things can be monetized and those who run the group can try to use their site to pick up a freebie or an endorsement here and there. It is really the mildest form of influence/celebrity.

The Illusion It's Something

Let me remind everyone of one thing...it's just a Facebook group in Lubbock. I understand those who help build it are very disappointed that they were taken advantage of, but really, what did you lose? It's hard when someone (allegedly) takes advantage of your hard work and goodwill, but welcome to life. We all experience others benefiting from the sweat of our brow at some point. I started one of the original food groups, "Uncomfortable Close-Ups Of Food" on 1/18/2020 and many of these food groups that came later posted on our page relentlessly to try to steal our base, when all we wanted to do is have a food related group to get us through the pandemic.

Start Your Own

There is but one answer, and that is to start a competing group. There are no shortage of great names including, Hub City Grub, Lubbock Food Finds, The 806 Kitchen, 806 Food Lovers, Lubbock's Flavorful Frontier, Savor the 806, Hub City Hungry, From the Pan to the Plate, Lubbock, 806: Where Food is the Flavor of Life, Lubbock's Home Cooks, 806 Food Community, Home-Cooked Hub City, Dine In or Dine Out, Lubbock, Lubbock's Culinary Corner, The 806 Food Network.  Just go ahead and steal one of those and the avoid the drama by creating your own page! Until then, I guess the food fans of Lubbock will pop the popcorn and watch the drama as the food wars are being fought!
