Police in Amarillo are investigating a Christmas Day shooting at a motel that left one dead.

Police responded to a call after receiving a call about shots fired and someone screaming at a motel along busy Interstate 40.

Officers arrived on the scene and found a man dead outside a room and then summoned a SWAT team to deal with other people still inside the room.

Lt. Erick Bohannon, coordinator of the special crimes unit for Potter and Randall counties, told the Amarillo Globe-News that the remaining people in the room came out without further incident. They were detained by police, but no one was immediately arrested.

Police wouldn't say how many people were rounded up. The name of the shooting victim is being withheld until relatives can be notified.
