Tuesday on Lubbock's First News, Tom and Laura spoke with Eddie Smith, a Floydada cotton farmer who was named recipient of the 2013 Cotton Growers Achievement Award. He commented on methods and progress in farming cotton.

Smith is the chairman of the board of the Plains Cotton Cooperative Association. Smith talked about changes they made to modify water output after the sever drought years of 2011 and 2012. He said that going into 2013, "we reevaluated our pivot irrigation systems... refigured the amount of water we had there to get better water output and more uniform water output." They worked to get the most water possible out of the system during a long dry season. Smith also discussed thoughts of those working in agriculture on the farm bill.
