On Thursday's edition of Lubbock's First News, Dr. Jeffery Wherry from Texas Tech University talked with Tom Collins and Laura Mac about an upcoming symposium on child abuse.

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and throughout the month, there will be several events going on in Lubbock to help raise awareness for this issue. This Friday, March 29th, a summit on child abuse will be held at the Knipling Education Conference Center at Covenant Medical Center.

Wherry said the summit will feature a variety of experts on such topics as pediatrics and psychology discussing the various physical, mental and emotional effects of child abuse and how to help those children who suffer from abuse.

The summit is sponsored by Covenant Children's Hospital and will be held from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Admission is free, but RSVP is required. To RSVP for the summit, call 1-866-426-8326.
