On Monday's edition of Lubbock's First News, Congressman Randy Neugebauer talked with Tom Collins and Laura Mac about the latest goings on in Washington.

As the fiscal cliff approaches, it seems as though both sides are playing "chicken," waiting to see who will cave in first. However, Neugebauer contended that the only ones playing "chicken" were the Republicans, and the Democrats have not made a single effort to discuss spending cuts. Neugebauer also discussed the possibility of President Obama asking for the power to raise the debt ceiling himself.

"The President...has tried to expand the Constitutional powers that he thinks the President of the United States has. But, that's the last leverage Congress has to control this president's borrowing and spending. And if we go ahead and give him a unilateral opportunity to increase his credit card limit anytime he wants to, Congress might as well go home."

Neugebauer then spoke with a caller about President Obama using the power of executive orders to "get around" Congress, and how Congress can keep the president's power in check.
