Congressman Mac Thornberry (R- Clarendon) later this month will hold a public forum for prospective students, and their parents, of the U.S. Military Service Academies.

The U.S. Service Academy Forum will be held on Saturday, March 24, from 1p-3p at the Southwest Branch of the Amarillo Public Library (6801 Southwest 45th Avenue Amarillo, TX).

According to Congressman Thornberry's office, the forum is designed for potential nominees in their junior or senior year of high school.  However, all local students, parents, and counselors are invited to attend the event.

Representatives from West Point, the Naval Academy, and the Air Force Academy will give presentations and answer questions.  Rep. Thornberry and his staff will also be available to explain the application process.

“There is not a day that goes by that I am not impressed and inspired by those who serve in our Armed Forces.  Nominating young people to serve as the future leaders in the military is an important part of my job and one that I take seriously,” said Thornberry, who currently serves as the Vice Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee.

Members of Congress are allowed to nominate a number of students to attend each service academy.

Congressman Thornberry's District 13 currently includes most of the Texas Panhandle, the northeastern portion of the South Plains, Crosby County, Texoma and the northern counties of the Big Country.
