For some people in Texas, getting arrested is one of the worst times of their lives. But, for others, the fun is just beginning when those cuffs get slapped on their wrists.

So, what are some common mistakes that people make when getting apprehended in the State of Texas? Well, fighting with cops is a definite no-no, but let's go through the top three, according to the Texas-based Neal Davis Law Group.

Mistake #1 When Getting Apprehended in Texas

Fighting back and resisting arrest is possibly the worst thing you can do when getting arrested. Sure, if you have been wrongfully accused of certain crimes, then you have every right to fight back... legally and in a professional manner.

This means going through the process, hiring a decent lawyer, and providing as much evidence to support your innocence to the court.

Fighting with police will do nothing but add more to your charges.

Mistake #2 During an Improper Arrest

In Texas, you are not obligated to share information with police during an arrest. Everything you say will be recorded and used as evidence for or against you, so watch your tongue.

Some cops intentionally ask questions that set you up to make statements that incriminate you. Obviously, you should always cooperate with police if they give you directions (assuming they are within the law to do so), but you have every right to decline to provide answers until you speak with an attorney.

Mistake #3 During a Texas Arrest

Lastly, later in the process, some defendants assume they are beyond innocent, so they can easily defend themselves with the evidence they have. Unfortunately, even if you are the best public speaker, you still should hire a lawyer to address the legal processes.

You can still pass along all the evidence you have to your lawyer, but let them handle it from there.
