Abbott: Straus’ Priorities Differed From My Special Session Priorities [INTERVIEW]
Thursday on The Chad Hasty Show, Texas Governor Greg Abbott joined the show to discuss and answer questions about the upcoming special session of the 85th Texas Legislature.
Among the topics discussed were the differing priorities for the session, property tax reform, school choice, and the "bathroom bill".
Speaking on the differences between his own, and Speaker Joe Straus' priorities for the 85th Legislature, Abbott said,
[Straus] prioritized items that were along the lines of what his priorities were, and I laid out a special session on items that I consider to be priorities for the state of Texas. These are all items that will make the state of Texas even better...If [the legislators] are not going to take care of business during the regular session...then I'm going to make sure that we have a special session that counts, that focuses on issues that I know are very important to our fellow Texans.
While answering Hasty's question about the large list of special session goals that Abbott has issued, and whether or not there will be enough time to complete it all, Abbott said,
We don't need them to waste time by coming in at two o'clock in the afternoon and then adjourning at five o'clock in the afternoon. They need to come to Austin with their work hat on...Chad, they [have] plenty of time to get this done. If they don't get it done, it's because they're lazy, it's because they have the lack of will, the lack of desire to get this done, and the taxpayers of the state of Texas are not going to tolerate it.
