Xcel Energy Warns Customers of Scammers

Xcel Energy is warning citizens of a scam reportedly being perpetrated in the area.

The scammers reportedly impersonate Xcel Energy employees and threaten disconnection of service if immediate payment is not made.

Several area customers have said that impersonators are seeking to obtain payment either over the phone or in person.

Xcel Energy says that customers are urged to use authorized methods to pay their bills, and should never give credit card numbers or personal information to suspicious callers.

Affected customers should call Xcel Energy customer service at 1-800-895-4999.

If customers have given credit card information over the phone to someone posing as an Xcel Energy employee, the customer should call their credit card company and follow the company’s recommendations.
