Electric linemen from across the area will show off their work and safety skills this weekend.

The 21st Lone Star Lineman’s Rodeo will take place on Saturday, July 28th and Xcel Energy’s Amarillo Technical Center on East Interstate 40.

The competition will feature contests in two traditional line competitions and three mystery events beginning at 8 a.m. Teams will compete in the pole climb with a raw egg, the hurt-man rescue, and the mystery events.

The pole climb consists of a lineman climbing a pole with an egg in a canvas bucket, removing the egg and placing it in his mouth, knocking loose an existing bucket atop the pole, and descending with the unbroken egg in his mouth.

The event is being held for the third year on the grounds of Xcel Energy’s Amarillo Technical Center at 7801 E. Interstate 40.

The top four Xcel Energy Texas and New Mexico teams and apprentices from the Amarillo event will earn a trip to the International Lineman’s Rodeo in October in Bonner Springs, Kansas.
