A Lubbock man is now in the hospital after getting trapped in a tunnel in southeast Lubbock County.

The victim, whose name has not yet been released, was pinned by a push cart that derailed from a cable around 100 feet into the tunnel at East County Road 7300 and Farm-to-Market 3431 around noon Friday.

The worker was freed from the tunnel, which was around 20 feet underground, and taken to an area hospital with two broken legs.

The tunnel will be closed for a safety evaluation. Lubbock and Woodrow Fire Departments assisted in freeing the man.
